Back in the day as a student I banked with Barclays. An overdraft facility got me comfortably through 6-years of Uni and its assistance meant they got my banking business until the point I moved the USA. Strangely enough, my relationship with Barclays was extended further when sometime in the late 80’s, I was deployed to its IT center outside of Manchester to project manage a set of projects that culminated in the roll out of Barclays ATM’s. While there, I managed also to sell in my employer to outsource a small part of the business. I recall being quite flummoxed by the idea of getting cash from a machine in the wall…..
Today, however, Barclays has taken on a tinge of the enemy for me. I would now avoid doing business with them and Nat West and truly hope both banks go belly up. Why?
Well, both banks are working to eliminate cash.
Both have announced that customers will only be able to deposit 20,000GBP in cash per year across all accounts. They have also progressively closed branches denying their services to anyone without digital access to their accounts and aim to continue to do more of the same. They are trying to kill cash. That makes them my enemy.
Plastic and digital access is a convenience that I lived without and could easily live without again. For me, cash is king. It cannot be tracked nor controlled - it is anonymous. Digital money is not only traceable and trackable - it is also controllable. They - whomever they may be - can stop you using your own money to purchase things perhaps based on some score they have assigned you based on your ideas and lifestyle. This is where it is going and there is no doubt at all about it.
But banks make more money from you is you don’t use cash. They charge fees for those debit and credit card transactions and once that is all there is, they can charge whatever fee they deem fit. For banks, the end of cash is about profits. They can make a lot more money with less expense from you while the Government can control what you spend and when you spend it.
This is NOT my idea of freedom.
I suspect that the end of cash will actually usher in a new era of bartering. Many of us will find ways to avoid their cashless silliness and fascism by bartering for goods and services. I also think cash alternatives will spring up - tokens, credits and so on. Cash simply has too many advantages to be killed off for most of us.
For me, its not about cheating on taxes or finding ways to avoid paying fees. It is about control, choice and flexibility. I recognise that electronic banking has advantages in certain situations as well.
Those of us that like and enjoy cash and see its benefits ought to consider boycotting and removing out business from banks that seek to kill it. That way, we send a message to these self obsessed promoters of the agenda…. Get lost!
The BIS have openly suggested that their wet dream is a digit monetary system with GPS controls that will in effect police the C40 Cities Agenda. AKA 15 minute cities. Your phone will not be capable of buying anything outside of your designated gulag. Stop using SMART phones would kill their control matrix dead. Most folk are simply 'androids', addicted to the convenience.
Your posts always arrive in my inbox at the best time, when I'm drinking my morning coffee! Yes. Absolutely correct, I also worked for a couple of banks, left 2007, I must have known what was coming.
Also, I ran a cash only business which I closed in 2014, this new rule will have a huge impact on cash only business......."but they are probably money laundering" most will say.
I have offered Astrololgy sessions to others for barter but not much interest in it, maybe we aren't quite there yet but hopefully soon 🤞
