Book sales are a funny thing. One minute they are selling like hotcakes and the next - they are dead. I have edited and written many paranormal collections - some of which became best sellers in their category on Amazon - yet in the last few months, the sales have collapsed. I’m unsure why and we tried some new covers and so but to no avail.
So to try to resurrect my dead books (apologies for the click bait title!), we have created a Tik Tok - yes, you read that right…. I have never done anything on this platform but I know the kids are addicted to it and so, my publicist suggested this as an approach. I’m not sure if it will work but it sure has been fun.
Take this one as an example -
There will also be some new books coming out and I am promoting and trying to also get My Haunted Life Too going a bit better again. This is my collection site where people submit their stories of encounters with the ghastly and ghouly. I have taken my eye of the ball this last couple of years as the dowsing bug caught and let things slip a bit…. you can also buy some super logo’d gear from the site as well btw… The logo is really cool I think.
Anyway, back to books.
Do you buy books? If so do you prefer real paper books, ebooks or audiobooks? I prefer paper if Im honest and there is nothing like the smell of a paper book….. they should bottle it!
My back catalogue is quite extensive and very mixed - paranormal, magic, dowsing, poetry, novels…. some good and some probably not so good. I used to get hung up about reviews until I visited Shakespeares’ Amazon page and read his reviews…. not all good either.
I write for fun and a living - my main job is a lot of writing. I tell my clients, I’m not the best writer, in fact, I’m probably quite awful at it, but I am effective. When clients try to edit, I won’t let them - it has to be my wording for if I suddenly started writing well, people would know it wasn’t me who wrote the piece…. and thats not good.
So we shall see if we can resurrect my book sales a bit using a few of these techniques….
Have a great day!
People have attention span of fleas lately, they couldn’t sit through two pages. Your tiktoks might grt some traction, good luck!
I prefer paper books but don’t have either the money to spend or the room to pht them. So I have to go the ebook way and lose the ambience. But at least I’m reading which makes me happy.
Agreed, good marketing angle Michael, I like the spooky vibe. Good luck.
90% of the books I buy and read are ebooks these days. I’ve got 3 phones full of them. It’s the ease of use when travelling to meet mates or heading to a pub, and can read them at night and not wake up the Mrs; can highlight favourite passages, or if a book isn’t grabbing you at the particular moment you can quickly flick to another etc…
